Seattle Seahawks starting QB Russell Wilson indicated that he is not concerned how the situation with his expiring contract will play out before the team gives him an extension.
In an interview with the Everett Herald, Wilson said that his love of the game of football outweighed his desire to make a fuss and believes the situation will resolve itself for the better.
“In terms of my contract, I don’t really talk about that kind of stuff,” Wilson said. “I love the game of football. I love playing the game of football. I try to put my best foot forward and I want to be the best to ever play the game. That’s the way I look at it. I’ve been fortunate enough to win a lot of games at such a young age and to be able to play with some great guys and have some great comeback wins and win a Super Bowl, and go to back to back Super Bowls. It’s been special. So that’s what I focus on. I focus on the next opportunity that I have. The rest will come. I believe God is going to bless me. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I trust always. And I trust it’s going to work out the way it’s supposed to.”
In three seasons as the Seahawks’ starting QB since being drafted 75th overall in the 2012 NFL draft, Wilson has led the Seahawks to three straight playoff appearances, two Super Bowls and a Super Bowl win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. In the regular season he has maintained one of the best TD-INT ratios in the league with 72 TDs versus only 26 INTs. In addition, Wilson has made the Pro Bowl twice and passed for just under 10,000 yards.
Wilson is still playing under his 3rd-round rookie deal which will not pay him anywhere near the level of franchise QB money that players like Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning or even Drew Brees are making right now – and none of them have had the same level of success in the last three years as Wilson has.
