Anzhi have joined the chase for Nani.
Manchester United winger Nani has been the subject of several transfer approaches this summer with both Galatasaray and AS Roma interested and now Anzhi Makhachkala are in the hunt, reports the Mirror.
With just a year left on the Portugal international’s deal at Old Trafford the Premier League champions are willing to cash-in on the 26-year-old.
Gala had an £8.5m bid for the winger rejected by United earlier in the summer, with the Red Devils holding out for nearer to £12m.
With a seemingly endless supply of money for new players, Anzhi could easily afford that fee and the appointment of former United coach Rene Muelensteen at the Russian club could make the transfer easier.
Muelensteen worked with Nani for six years in Manchester, after the Portuguese forward made a £17m switch from Sporting Lisbon in 2007.
Now the Dutch coach works with Anzhi manager Guus Hiddink’s backroom staff and it would be an attractive prospect for the pair to link-up once again.
Nani will not fly out to east Asia with the Red Devils’ team this week for their three-week pre-season tour due to injury, but it’s highly likely that when the club returns the winger will no longer be part of the setup.
Despite having the most assists in the Premier League since 2009, the former Sporting man has been out-of-favour in the past few seasons and is currently behind Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in the pecking order and new signing Wilfried Zaha is also competing in the same position.
Nani’s not too bad in front of goal either as shown by this strike:
