Full-back had always been surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Southampton have captured Ryan Bertrand on a permanent deadline day deal which will see the English full back sign a four and a half year deal at St Mary’s.

The 25 year old has been on-loan with the Saints from Chelsea since the start of the season and joins the south coast side for £10 million, according to Daily Mail.
Bertrand has been a constant feature, making 22 starts in the league and three in the FA Cup, for a Southampton defence that has the best record at the back in the Premier League this season.
The England man’s deal will see him remain with the Saints until at least 2019 and ends a spell at Chelsea which saw him make seven loan moves in eight years, despite breaking into the Blues first team in 2011/12.
Liverpool were said to be interested in a summer move for the defender and even attempted to broker a deal but baulked at an £8m asking price by Jose Mourinho’s side.
