English billionaire Marwan Koukash has confirmed the Newcastle Knights as one of the NRL clubs he is interested in buying.
The Salford Red Devils owner is genuinely interested in buying an NRL club and has narrowed his options down to “one or two” clubs after ruling out potential ownership of the Wests Tigers.
The one-time Palestinian refugee told Sky Sports Radio he has spoken to Knights officials in regards to taking control of the club.
“I have big interest in moving to Australia in the next 18 months,” he said.
“It’s genuine interest and I can’t see myself not being involved, or wanting to be involved in the best rugby league competition in the world.
“I am talking to people that really know who are very close to the Newcastle Knights and it’s no secret it’s definitely on of the clubs I am looking at.”
Koukash took over the cash-strapped Red Devils in 2013 and help lift the club from the bottom of the Super League table to 10th in 2014.
