The San Antonio Spurs will look to take a significant step towards another championship if they can secure a win in Game 4 against the Miami Heat.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and star LeBron James conceded that they had looked through the painful tape of Game 3, and there is much to improve on if they are to level the series on Thursday night.
Miami’s defense was relatively non-existent in the first half in which the Spurs scored 71 points on 75.6 percent shooting which is a record in an NBA Finals game.
With the lack of intensity in the opening half the game ultimately ran away from Miami before their third quarter comeback, although a great deal of credit must also go to San Antonio for the way that they executed and held their nerve in testing circumstances.
Nevertheless, Miami will know that they have won 13 straight post-season games following a loss, and their resolve will undoubtedly be tested moving forward as Dwyane Wade insists that they are not looking further than Game 4 and will concern themselves with the rest when they get there.
No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, and a victory on Thursday would guarantee the Spurs two chances to win the series on their home floor in either Game 5 or Game 7.
However, coach Gregg Popovich won’t be looking that far ahead either, and all the focus will be on attempting to at least come close to repeating their offensive performance on Tuesday night and putting the pressure on Miami early to silence the home crowd.
If that results in a more aggressive Kawhi Leonard leading the charge, then Popovich will hope to see more of the same from his young star.
