LaMichael James should be ready to go by Week 1.
49ers RB LaMichael James had to leave practice early on Sunday due to an injury which was later determined to be a dislocated left elbow. ESPN.com reported that James is likely to be out for one month of action and will likely miss the entire preseason.
James has 39 carries for 184 yards since being drafted by the 49ers in 2012. He was designated as starting RB Frank Gore’s backup after Kendall Hunter went down with an injury last week. James’ injury leaves the 49ers with only two other RBs on the roster for the rest of training camp: Carlos Hyde, a rookie out of Ohio State, and Jewel Hampton, a former practice squad player.
The 49ers open their season on September 7th at the Dallas Cowboys.
