Rookie receiver attempted to visit team facilities outside league permitted hours.
In a strange turn of events that unfolded on Wednesday, new San Francisco 49ers wide receiver was a little too eager to turn up to work.
Under league rules, a rookie can visit the team facilities in the 24 hours after he is drafted, and then can no longer be at the training ground until the start rookie minicamp, in the 49ers case May 10th.
Jim Harbaugh had nothing but praise for the youngster, who is predicted to have a good first year with the team.
He told KNBR Radio via Mercury News that he is already his favourite rookie.
“He’s already my favorite guy,” Harbaugh said.
“We had to go, ‘You’re where? What airport did you fly in to? You’re in a rental car driving here?”
“Yeah, coach, 20 minutes away.’ We go, ‘He can’t be here, he can’t come here. He’s not allowed to be at our facility.”
The Louisiana Tech standout paid for his own flight and rental car to get to the facilities, and despite the technicalities, it is clear that this ambition and eagerness to work has already rubbed off on the coaching staff.
Patton was though to be a steal when he was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round, and now will be thinking they did pretty well with this pick.
