The return of Vernon Davis spells good things for a 49ers team that needs everything in its power to knock off the Seahawks from the Division title.
After a holdout that resulted in $270,000 in lost wages, Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis reported to 49ers training camp today. Davis has been holding out in an attempt to get a new contract. His failure to report to offseason workouts caused him to miss out on a $200,000 bonus and resulted in $70,000 in fines for failure to report.
Ian Rappaport from NFL Network reported that Vernon Davis is still seeking a new contract. However, he added that Davis reported for several reasons – that the 49ers would only negotiate a new contract if he reported to camp, and that he would be fined $30,000 per day until he reported.
Davis led the 49ers with 13 TDs in 2013 and was named to his 2nd Pro Bowl. Davis was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2009.
