The San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers will both seek to avenge blowout losses as they face each other Sunday.
The San Francisco 49ers have only scored three points over the course of two preseason games, and the Denver Broncos played the 49ers’ game by playing physical defense on them and shutting them down, 34-0. They will look to re-establish themselves Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had another underwhelming performance with 39 yards on 5-for-9 passing, and Blaine Gabbert continued to look awful.
The only somewhat bright spot in the offense was rookie wide receiver Bruce Ellington, who caught four passes for 24 yards on seven targets.
Rookie safety Jimmie Ward looked promising with a team-leading seven tackles despite the 49ers allowing Peyton Manning and the other Broncos quarterbacks to put on a clinic.
The Chargers are also coming off a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, who beat them 41-14. Quarterback Philip Rivers played for just one drive and didn’t lead a scoring drive. Backup Kellen Clemens put together another excellent preseason performance with 149 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-21 passing.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen scored a 13-yard touchdown on his lone catch of the game, and Malcom Floyd looks ready for a potential rebound year after leading the team with two catches and 30 yards.
