Running back Frank Gore and wide receiver Michael Crabtree are set to become free agents, and they are expected by many to move on to new teams.
However, the 49ers’ new head coach, Jim Tomsula, said that the team is working on contract talks with Crabtree and Gore.
“Yeah. I mean that’s going on right now. I’m a big Frank Gore guy. I know these talks are ongoing now, starting this week along with our other free agents,” Tomsula said to NFL.com.
Tomsula also immediately said “Yes” when asked if he wanted Crabtee to return to the 49ers.
Gore has been rumored to be linked to the Indianapolis Colts, who are in need of a running back after trading a first-round pick for Trent Richardson backfired.
