The Quakes were on course to record only their second victory on the road.
San Jose Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon says they were left shattered after being denied a rare away win by FC Dallas.
Gordon, scoring his third goal of the campaign, and Steven Beitashour put the Quakes 2-0 up inside the first 16 minutes and they looked on course to register only their second victory on the road this season until Dallas staged a stunning comeback to nick a point and leave interim coach Mark Watson and his side crestfallen.
“It’s very disappointing for us,” Gordon told MLS Soccer after the contest. “We were in position to get three points here. I think we did enough to win the game.
“You can make your opinions about what you think about how they ended up tying the game, but it’s disappointing to us.”
Watson hinted that he was displeased with the Quakes’ defending after manoeuvring themselves into a strong position and conceded his side failed to cope with the Dallas’ spirited. response
“It’s the perfect start,” he added. “You score two goals in the first 20 minutes, away from home, that’s as good as it gets. At that point, as soon as the second goal went in, the real key is to defend, and not concede for that next 10 minutes, when you know they’re coming right back at you.
“They’re full of adrenaline and want to get one back as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they did get one [Perez goal].”
