Spaniard says Wilshere ‘adds something extra to the team.’
Santi Cazorla says he is enjoying playing alongside Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere and has predicted a big future for the England youngster.
Cazorla arrived at Arsenal in the summer from Malaga and has been an influential part of the team this season, starting all but one the Gunners’ 28 Premier League games so far.
Wilshere, meanwhile, returned to action in November after being sidelined for over 18 months with a series of injuries.
The pair have formed a stylish central midfield pairing at the Emirates Stadium but have often been let down by defensive lapses at the back.
Cazorla, 28, believes the pair have similar playing styles but stressed this can only benefit Arsene Wenger’s side.
“Jack is a vital player,” Cazorla told Arsenal’s official website. “He adds something extra to the team and I’m gradually getting to know his style of play better.
“His way of playing complements my own – in fact, we play in similar positions and so that makes it easier for us to establish a greater understanding every day. He adds that little bit more that we need in many of our games.
Wilshere made made his debut for England before facing the lengthy spell on the sidelines but Cazorla admits he had not heard much about the 20-year-old when he joined Arsenal.
“I didn’t know much about him when I came to the club because he hasn’t been around for very long. He surprised me because he is such a complete footballer. He’s young and has a spectacular future ahead of him and he’s also got a lot of room to mature and develop.
“Certainly, he’s highly valued in England for being a complete player and I have no doubts that he’s going to be even more important here in the future.”
Wilshere has started 18 Premier League games for Arsenal this season and is yet to score for the Gunners, despite laying on three assists.
