Saturday will be a huge day for football teams in Mississippi: #11 Ole Miss hosts #3 Alabama, and less than 100 miles away #12 Mississippi State will host #6 Texas A&M. For the first time since 1961, both teams are undefeated heading into October. But neither team has finished ranked in the top 25 polls since Mississippi State finished #15 in 2010. Both teams have huge opportunities to pull major upsets against contenders for the SEC title and college football playoffs, for a state that does not have much in the ways of professional sports, this weekend could mean everything in the world for the entire state.
Here are the picks for Week 6 of the college football season:
#21 Oklahoma State over Iowa State – This team is slowly rising in the ranks. This offense is scary and the team overall could finish in the top 3 in the Big XII conference.
#20 Ohio State over Maryland – Whoever wins this game will likely be the frontrunner for the Big 10 East title
#22 East Carolina over SMU – A win for East Carolina puts them in the driver’s seat for the AAC title.
#12 Mississippi State over #6 Texas A&M – Kenny Hill is very good, but the team overall may be a little outmatched on the road. The upset this week goes to the Bulldogs.
#1 Florida State over Wake Forest – No lead is safe when Jameis Winston is the QB. Even if Wake Forest gets the lead at some point in this game, they can’t be trusted to hold it.
#25 TCU over #4 Oklahoma – Despite the wins, Oklahoma has not been the juggernaut a #4 team should be. They’re vulnerable: which means the TCU home team has an edge and can score the upset.
#17 Wisconsin over Northwestern – Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon is the most exciting player in college football outside the SEC.
#9 Notre Dame over #14 Stanford – Notre Dame was able to crush Syracuse despite 5 turnovers. If they can clean up those mistakes, Stanford hardly stands a chance.
#3 Alabama over #11 Ole Miss – Alabama simply has too much firepower between Amari Cooper, Blake Sims and T.J. Yeldon to lose this game.
#7 Baylor over Texas – Speaking of firepower, Bryce Petty is the most dominant QB in college football right now.
#13 Georgia over Vanderbilt – This is the kind of game that will feed Georgia RB Todd Gurley’s Heisman hopes.
#5 Auburn over #15 LSU – LSU’s loss to Mississippi State may have been a fluke, but Auburn will prove LSU truly has no place in the SEC title hunt.
#23 Kansas State over Texas Tech – It would have been harder to make this pick if Texas Tech wasn’t such a complete and utter mess right now.
#16 USC over Arizona State – If Stanford loses, this game could elevate USC into a much anticipated matchup with UCLA for a shot at the Pac-12 title.
#19 Nebraska over #10 Michigan State – Both teams have explosive offenses that can put a beating on opponents, but Nebraska has one of the most exciting players in the nation in Ameer Abdullah – if he gets going, Nebraska will get the upset.
#8 UCLA over Utah – With the loss by Oregon on Thursday night, UCLA can expect a bump to the top 5 by weekend’s end.
