German club label offer ‘unacceptable’.
Schalke 04 have rejected an “unacceptable” offer from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Lewis Holtby to join them before the end of the transfer window, manager Horst Heldt has confirmed.
Holtby, 22, has already confirmed he will join Spurs after his Schalke contract expires in June, but the London club are eager to have the Germany Under-21 captain in their ranks London earlier with Brazilian midfielder Sandro out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
“Tottenham have made an offer, which was not acceptable, therefore it was rejected,” Heldt said. “The transfer window is still open and Lewis has not become any cheaper.”
Heldt was referring to Holtby’s eye-caching performance on Friday night when the central midfielder created two goals and scored the decisive fifth in Schalke’s thrilling 5-4 Bundesliga home win over Hanover 96.
Holtby has said he is fully focused on helping Schalke and said any potential move to London is out of his hands.
“I am not going to just piss off without busting my arse for the team,” he said colourfully. “I will give my all for Schalke until the last second. Everything else must be decided by the clubs.”
