Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett did not mince words after the team’s 28-6 blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals, going so far as to call the Seahakws the best defense ever.
“We’re the best defense to ever play football, so when we play the way we play, the way we’re capable of playing, whatever he did didn’t really matter,” he said. “When we line up and play the way we are capable of playing, I don’t think anybody can play with us.”
Their 33 points allowed in a five-game span is the third-fewest since 2004 – so they’re probably not even the best defense of the past decade, let alone all time. With 248 points allowed this season they aren’t even as good as the Seahawks team that only allowed 231 in 2013, or the 245 they allowed in 2012, or the Steelers and 49ers in 2011, or the Steelers and Packers in 2010, or the New York Jets in 2009.
The Seahawks can certainly win a Superbowl with this roster, and all of those teams performed well in the playoffs the year they led the league in defense. But these Seahawks are barely the best defense in the last five years, let alone all time.
