Win is first step on the ladder for Sounders
After a 1-0 win against Columbus Crew Eddie Johnson is pleased with how his side fared during a tough match.
The 29-year-old striker feels there has been a marked improvement over the last two months.
It was Johnson who was the difference between the two sides, heading in the only goal of the game past Matt Lampson.
Speaking to MLS soccer.com Johnson praised his sides performance: “We got something special today, the character we showed is something else,I’m proud of my boys. So proud of the guys to play with this heart.”
The striker also spoke about the team’s proficiency with dead balls and the importance of a side occasionally being able to win ugly.
“We’re a good team on set pieces,I think one of my strengths is being dangerous in the box. Mauro Rosales and I have a good relationship.
“We showed last year the relationship that we had and it’s starting to click again this year. I think four of the seven goals I’ve scored I think he’s assisted and I think they’ve all been headers.
“We just want to, as a team, enjoy this win. It wasn’t the prettiest soccer, but we knew they were going to have chances.”
The Sounders will play bottom of the table Chivas USA on Wednesday
