Real Madrid are understood to be keen to keep hold of the star centre-back, but Metro [via AS] reports United will have the chance to dig deep into its coffers to sign the 29-year-old World Cup winner.
United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be keen on luring Ramos to Old Trafford, however it remains to be seen if Red Devils bosses would be keen to stump up the staggering transfer fee for player slowly heading into the latter stages of his career.
The Sun last week reported United had £32m bid for Ramos turned down, and the Premier League giants will now have to almost double its offer to buy the Spanish international outright.
Real Madrid are still understood to be interested in United goalkeeper David de Gea, and reports suggest the two deals will merge and a compromise could be found.
