Crespo believes “champion” Tevez can make the difference for Juve.
Former Serie A striker Hernan Crespo believes that Italian football is returning to its glory days after the big signings made this summer.
Having played for the likes of AC Milan, Inter, Lazio and Parma during his playing days, Crespo still has a place in his heart for Serie A, and continues to have a strong interest in the league.
With a number of major signings this summer, Crespo believes that the Italian top flight is growing in strength again and has tipped two of his compatriots to deliver next season.
“Who got the best deal? Italian football,” Crespo told Tuttosport as reported by Football Italia.
“It is a sign that things are getting back to the glory days, when Serie A was at the top of European football. The real problem holding them back is that the same stadiums we dreamed of playing in 20 years ago have remained more or less the same, without adapting.”
While Crespo’s theory is feasible, there is a case to suggest that the only reason the likes of Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina have been able to spend such vast amounts this summer is because of the fact that they have also sold.
In contrast, Juve’s ability to continue winning whilst also benefiting from privately owning their own stadium and the financial benefits that come with that mean that they are capable of competing in the market too.
The 38-year-old went on to suggest that Carlos Tevez will make a significant impact in Turin, as he has seen him mature and develop as a player throughout his time in Europe.
The former Argentine international also revealed that he was not surprised that both Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain chose to move to Italy despite interest from around Europe, and believes the latter will have an equally positive role to play as Napoli look to begin a new cycle of success under Rafa Benitez.
“Italian football has a very special place in the heart of Argentinians, as we feel at home here. I am not surprised, for example, that Higuain preferred Napoli to Arsenal.
“Pipita is a hitman, but can also help players like Marek Hamsik, Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Maria Callejon score more goals too,” he added.
Crespo also spoke of Juventus’ chances in the Champions League this season given that both Tevez and Fernando Llorente were brought in to help them compete against the best in Europe.
The former Milan striker was keen to stress the importance of all the big clubs changing coaches this summer, and therefore Juve must look to take advantage of having a balanced and settled squad under the stewardship of Antonio Conte.
