Fiorentina want defensive support and are looking to the Premier League.
Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur’s Younes Kaboul and Johnny Heitinga of Everton have been pinpointed by Fiorentina as defensive acquisitions, reports calciomercato.
The Serie A club are keen to improve their back line in January and with Spurs having several options at centre-back Kaboul may struggle to get many first team opportunities.
Jan Vertonghen was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2013 after signing from Ajax 12 months ago and the Belgian is highly regarded in north London.
Along with Vertonghen, club captain Michael Dawson and new £8.5m Vlad Chiriches are also competing with Kaboul for a first team place.
Heintinga is yet to play a Premier League match for the Toffees this term, with skipper Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin the preferred partnership.
With Seamus Coleman emerging as a real talent at right-back, Heintinga may struggle to get into the first team as well.
Both English clubs would probably be open to the possibility of letting their defenders leave in the next transfer window, although the price would have to be right.
Fiorentina have had a superb start to the current season, winning both of their league matches so far although as yet have failed to keep a clean-sheet.
After losing talisman Stevan Jovetic to Manchester City, the Italian side recruited strongly this summer with high profile names such as Mario Gomez and Joaquin joining the club.
However of the 10 new signings Fiorentina brought in, not one was a centre-back.
