According to reports in the Guardian, Robin van Persie, Phil Jones and Rafael are also at risk in the coming months, as Van Gaal looks to stamp his own image on a United squad that already enjoyed £150m worth of investment last summer.
With David de Gea, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling also closing in on the end of their existing contracts, the source explains that United are preparing for a huge summer clear-out, and that after United allowed 15 players to go last year – either permanently or on loan.
Falcao, who is on loan from Monaco and is costing United £16m in signing fee and salary, has so far proved a disappointment. The striker has been hampered by injury since arriving in September and has scored only three goals.
