2010 Superbowl champion Woodson has raised some interest since hitting the market but will only play for a championship contender.
Free agent safety Charles Woodson has attracted attention from a number of NFL teams but his agent says he will only play for a Superbowl contender.
Profootballtalk.com is reports that no less than four teams are interested in the 36 year-old.
Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and New York Giants are all courting the safety, and are arranging for Woodson to visit their facilities.
Of those teams, only Seattle made the playoffs, making the Seahawks his most obvious choice. But the smart choice would be New York Giants, who barely missed out on the playoffs and should be a stronger team next year.
And the Giants have need of a safety right now, and could use the former Heisman trophy winner’s experience if they are to make a serious run at a second title in three years.
It is still very early days to guess where Woodson will play next year, and there will no doubt more than four teams who will be interested in signing the player to a short-term deal.
The Atlanta Falcons could be a dark horse in the Woodson sweepstakes, if they fail to re-sign safety William Moore.
The Falcons are in desperate need of someone to Moore’s shoes immediately and could be the team with best chance of winning a championship, a trophy Woodson wants more than anything.
