Japanese star believes things can only get better
Wanderers star midfielder Shinji Ono feels his side are in better shape than ever before.
This will be the first pre-season Tony Popovic’s side have undertaken with a full team, Ono feels the squad will be all the better for it.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald the 33-year-old emphasised the benefits of a much more attacking style of play.
Last season Wanderers had one of the best defensive records in the league. Popovic is looking to build from the back and play more attacking football in the club’s second season.
“We want to do more creative [play] than last year and we can score more goals than last season. I expect [a lot from] myself but I want to try every time and I have to do more, score and create more chances. I want to [work hard] for the team.
Even though the club’s inaugural season was very much a success Ono feels that with proper preparation this season will be even better.
“I didn’t have time with the teammates last [pre-season] . . . but this year I have been here for a long time with the team and I know the structure of the team. I just want to show what I have and I want to give energy, 100 per cent of my energy, on the pitch.”
