The Reds are set to be offered the Serbian veteran in a swap deal involving Lucas Leiva, who has long been linked with a move to the San Siro this season.
No longer a regular at Liverpool, Lucas is wanted by Inter manager Roberto Mancini, though he is perhaps unlikely to succeed with this surprise exchange bid.
Vidic has been poor since joining Inter, and was also disappointing in his final season as a United player, looking past his best after a few years of injury problems.
