Coach hails team performance as DPMM reach final.
A tense 1-0 victory saw the Wasps dump out Woodland Wellington in the Starhub League cup semi-final.
Brunei DPMM sit four places and 9 points below the rams and were unfancied going into the last four clash.
Coach Vjerjan Simunic was impressed with the quality of his side’s performance against more fancied opposition.
Speaking to the Sleague.com, he outlined the strengths of Woodlands Wellington: “Many people thought it would be an easy game [for Woodlands].
“But football is football. On the pitch, it’s different. Our marking was fantastic. Woodlands have the best players in the league with Moon (Soon Ho) and Chang (Jo Yoon) but we kept them quiet.”
Simunic explained that attacking football was the key to DPMM’s victory: “We attacked for 90 minutes and we played with three strikers; we did not come here to defend.
“I’m very proud of this team because I always said Brunei has potential. Some people say we don’t have enough good players. Today we showed we are a good team because Woodlands is an excellent team and we beat them.
“Today’s performance showed we are close to playing like last year when we had a great season.
Balestier Khalsar will play DPMM in the final at the Jalan Besar stadium on September 14th at 7.45pm.
