4) Ron Vlaar – Aston Villa

Manchester United were heavily linked with Vlaar over the summer, the Villa centre-back having a fantastic World Cup in Rio under the then Netherlands international coach Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal was thought to be keen to bring him to Old Trafford this year, but no move ever materialised. With the Red Devils’ defence in tatters at the moment, they may revisit the possibility of signing Vlaar in January.
