1. Legion of Boom
This may be the obvious and cliche reason of all, but there’s no denying the ability of the Seahawks pass defense, which may go down as the best in NFL history if they are able to bring home a second Super Bowl. NFL quarterbacks go out of their way to avoid throwing toward Sherman’s way, and he was still able to snag four interceptions plus another two in the postseason. Safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor are also fantastic in coverage and run support. Chancellor is fully capable of neutralizing Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, as his hits are enough to rattle any player and make them to want to stop playing.
The Legion of Boom has proven that they can make any quarterback look bad, even if it is Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Patriots wide receivers Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell will be severely outmatched by Sherman and cornerback Byron Maxwell, and the Patriots passing offense will be doomed if Gronkowski is kept in check. On top of all this, the mantra that “defense wins championships” will remain true as the Seahawks will be the latest team with a No. 1 defense to win it all. A top-ranked defense has yet to ever lose a Super Bowl.
