3. Matthew Stafford is still a mediocre quarterback
Yes, the Lions may have been severely affected by the officials’ decision to not call pass interference on the Cowboys. However, Stafford did not perform well enough in the second half and put the Lions in position to give the game away. In contrast to Tony Romo, the Lions quarterback got off to a fast start with a touchdown pass in the first quarter as the Lions took a 17-7 halftime lead. However, he threw an interception to start the second half. While Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey missed a field goal following that turnover, Stafford committed two more in the fourth quarter, which is when a quarterback is needed the most.
A 10-yard punt was largely to blame for the Cowboys being able to score the go-ahead touchdown, but Stafford fumbled the ball twice and lost both of them. While he was bailed out by left tackle Riley Reiff on his first, his second came on the final play of the game. A playoff-caliber quarterback should have taken better care of the ball. While Stafford is a good quarterback, he still has a lot to prove to climb the ranks as he still has zero playoff wins in his six-year career.
