Manchester City are poised to announce the signing of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi in a £32m deal, according to reports.
The Argentine international was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, however, The Mirror reports City will officially confirm the signing of Otamendi as early as Thursday.
Otamendi has reportedly undergone a medical and will become the club’s fifth major signing this summer.
The addition of the 27-year-old reportedly takes City’s spending to just under £100m this summer following the signings of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal.
Otamendi was left out of Valencia’s squad for its Champions League play-off against Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco, and it seems the former FC Porto man is now ready to become a City player.
There’s no doubt the Argentine will provide stern competition for Vincent Kompany and Eliaqium Mangala this season, but he may have to bide his time following City’s strong start to the season.
