The 35-year-old defender was released by Sydney FC earlier this year
Socceroos captain Lucas Neill has been handed a career lifeline by J-League side Omiya Ardija, the Australian report.
The 35-year-old defender was struggling to find new employment following a brief stint in the A-League with Sydney FC last season, managing just 23 games in two years for Middle East clubs al-Jazira and al-Wasl prior to returning to his homeland.
After starring for Australia in the latter stages of their Asian World Cup qualifying campaign in June to qualify for the tournament in Brazil next year, Neill admits it is relieving to have his future resolved after signing for the struggling Squirrels until December.
“I’m very excited that I was able to join Omiya Ardija,” he said. “I hope I can become Ardija’s strength with my passionate playing style and strong will to win. I want to use my experience to help my teammates achieve the club’s goals.”
The former Millwall, Blackburn, West Ham and Everton man tweeted a picture of himself in a Omiya shirt whilst signing his contract on Sunday at the NACK5 Stadium.
