Porto’s Martinez is close to completing a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are said to be closing in on a deal for FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez in a transfer thought to cost around £33m, reports the Metro.
Martinez has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League for some time, with both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur having shown interest in the past.
The 27-year-old has only been on the radar of European teams for a short while, having signed for Porto in the summer of 2012 and scoring 43 goals in just 57 matches in all competitions since.
The Portuguese champions have a reputation of acquiring talent from South America for relatively low prices and developing them into world-class stars.
In the past both Radamel Falcao and Hulk have come to Europe via Porto and then moved on for huge transfer fees.
Martinez plays alongside Falcao in the highly rated Colombia national team, scoring five goals in 24 caps to date.
The Blues have also been linked with the AS Monaco forward, who has failed to truly settle in the Principality after a summer move from Atletico Madrid.
However, with Falcao likely to cost in the region of £50m or more, the west London club may view Martinez as the less risky option – with the last attacker costing that much, Fernando Torres, failing to warrant the price.
The Porto hit-man is contracted at the Primeira Liga club until 2016 but with manager Jose Mourinho’s strong links with the champions of Portugal, a transfer for the Colombian is a very realistic prospect.
