Southampton annihilated Newcastle United 4-0 in the Barclays Premier League – and it could have been more.
The south coast side dominated the first half, creating chance after chance, but it was only when Jay Rodriguez fired Saints ahead just before the break that their superiority was confirmed.
After half time, Southampton emphasised their class, with Rickie Lambert finishing well from Adam Lallana’s diagonal cross, Lallana scoring himself, and Rodriguez completing the scoring.
