With Arsenal now having completed the £16m capture of right back Calum Chambers from Southampton, it seems as though the Saints are now hoping that the favour will be returned, with the Metro linking the Saints with a double swoop for Gunners duo Carl Jenkinson and Serge Gnabry on loan deals.
Right back Jenkinson is likely to be available with Chambers jumping ahead of the former Charlton Athletic man as primary back-up to new first choice right back Mathieu Debuchy, although Premier League rivals such as Hull City and West Ham United are also believed to be in the hunt for Jenkinson.
Gnabry, meanwhile, enjoyed a fine breakthrough season under Arsene Wenger last year and is considered to be one of the brightest young prospects to emerge from the youth set-up at the Emirates Stadium in recent years.
The attacking midfielder is a silky and creative player who would help to replace Adam Lallana, another Southampton departee who has signed for Liverpool.
New manager Ronald Koeman is known for propensity to play stylish, attacking football, which may allow the Saints to present themselves as a good option for the players’ development, should Wenger’s decision between clubs come down to such issues.
