The 16-year-old has trained with the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid ahead of proposed moves, but the Saints could steal the march on all of them.
That is because the Hampshire side has such a great reputation for nurturing and developing young players, having seen the likes of Gareth Bale, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luke Shaw and Theo Walcott come through their ranks in recent times.
Odegaard’s father Hans Erik is overseeing the pursuit of his son and is keen that he does not rush into any decision because his head is turned by some of the best teams in world football.
The teenager has rapidly risen to stardom in 2014 after breaking into the first team at Stromsgodset and then making his full international debut for Norway soon after – with the midfielder having earned three caps to date.
