Saints looking to swoop for United front-man.
Southampton are set to end their difficult summer of selling players and finally bring someone in as they target a move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, according to the Metro.
The Mexican international could be available this summer after falling out of favour at Old Trafford, with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan previously linked with a move for him in this transfer window.
Having seen the likes of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana leave, with Dani Osvaldo likely to follow, it would be a big boost for Ronald Koeman’s side to bring in new signings in attack, and Hernandez would certainly be a quality option for the club if they could win the race for his signature.
The 26-year-old initially looked like a highly promising signing when he joined United in 2010, but has gone off the boil somewhat in recent times and now faces increased competition for places at the club.
Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck are currently ahead of the player in the pecking order at United, and he will likely welcome the chance to play regular first-team football.
