Celtic midfielder could be on his way to St Mary’s.
Celtic have accepted a bid from Southampton for midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Sky Sports.
Saints are yet to agree personal terms with the 21-year-old but hope to beat a host of other clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, to the Kenyan’s signature.
However, Wanyama has admitted he has rejected an initial contract offer from Saint Mary’s but says he is happy to consider future offers now that Celtic have given the move the green light.
“While the bid was okay for Celtic, the terms were not right for myself and my agent,” the Kenya international said.
“I am open to what offers are made, but I am relaxed and it’s important that Celtic are happy too.”
Newly-promoted Cardiff City, who reportedly agreed a fee with Blackpool for highly-rated youngster Tom Ince on Monday, are also tracking Wanyama, while Liverpool are watching events unfold.
The powerful midfielder has enjoyed a fine season for the SPL Champions both domestically and in the Champions League.
Wanyama scored the first goal in Celtic’s famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Parkhead last year.
