Ajax manager Frank de Boer has admitted that he would have accepted a job offer from Tottenham this summer, had they not chosen to instead appoint Southampton’s Mauricio Pochettino.
The Daily Express have revealed that De Boer was close to joining Tottenham but the Spurs board voted in favour of appointing Pochettino.
The Ajax manager was a front-runner for the White Hart Lane job after Tim Sherwood’s dismissal at the end of last season, but missed out to the Southampton man.
And, after securing Ajax their fourth straight Eredivisie championship, De Boer admits he would have happily left Amsterdam for the North London club.
“If they wanted me, I would probably have said ‘yes’,” De Boer told Amstel Television 5.
“I was really close to a move to Tottenham, but they chose Pochettino. It’s the same in a corporate company,” he added. “Eventually the board will vote and they came out with Pochettino.”
