Liverpool owned Pepe Reina could stay at Liverpool once his loan deal with Serie A club Napoli expires at the end of the season, the Daily Mail reports.
Reina is spending the season in Italy after Liverpool signed Belgian stopper Simon Mignolet last summer, but the 31-year-old reckons he could return to the Premier League giants next term.
“I don’t know where I’ll be next year, but my plan is to enjoy this season and do a good job. Then I’ll have to go to Liverpool and make a decision,” said Reina, who has won 31 caps for Spain.
“They have to explain to me what their intentions are, but I’m not currently up to speed on all of the possible offers which might come in, because that’s a job for my agent.
“My future is here, in Italy, and we’ll see what happens in June.”
Reina has impressed for Napoli, who currently sit third in Serie A. Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League table, but Mignolet has faded after an impressive start, and made some big errors during the festive period against Manchester City and Chelsea.
It’s possible that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could give the Spaniard another chance at Anfield next term. Reina made 394 appearances for Liverpool between 2005 and 2013, and on his day, is one of the very best in the business.
