Arsenal are set to secure another right back alongside Newcastle United star Mathieu Debuchy, with the Daily Star reporting that the Gunners are about to sign Atletico Madrid’s young full back Javier Manquillo on a loan deal.
Manquillo is highly rated in the Spanish capital, but with Juanfran continuing to hold on to his shirt as first choice at the Vicente Calderon, Atletico are willing to let him leave on loan – but the existence and potential value of a clause allowing Arsenal to make the deal permanent is reported to be the sticking point between the two parties.
The impression does, however, seem to be that a deal will be done – potentially spelling the end for 22 year-old Carl Jenkinson as an Arsenal player.
The former Charlton Athletic man has struggled to force his way past Bacary Sagna in the reckoning at the Emirates Stadium and, if he isn’t going to be given his chance even with Sagna gone, it would appear likely that he will be moving on this summer.
Stoke City and Newcastle United have both been mentioned as potential destinations for Jenkinson, who has done enough in an Arsenal shirt to suggest that he can be a very competent Premier League defender.
