AVB mightily impressed with record signing’s debut…
Tottenham’s Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas thinks his new striker Roberto Soldado will score 20 Premier League goals this season, reports the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old scored on his debut from the penalty spot in Tottenham’s 1-0 away win at newly promoted Crystal Palace, and his performance has got his manager very excited.
When asked if Soldado could hit the 20-goal mark this season, AVB said: “Of course, his record speaks for itself.”
The Spanish striker scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, and bagged a hugely impressive 81 times in his three year stay at Valencia. As a result, Spurs made the £26m hitman their club record signing, and will be hoping he pays back their faith in goals.
Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Nacer Cadli also made debuts at Selhurst Park, and Belgian centre-half Jan Vertonghen was equally as encouraged by their performances.
“They (new signings) are strong and Roberto scored a goal,” said the impressive centre-half.
“We have a big and strong team. We want to play for the prizes and Champions League qualification. That’s why we need a big team.”
Chadli in particular did well, and was happy with his Premier League debut. The 24-year-old Belgian winger looked composed on the ball, and wasn’t afraid to run at the Crystal Palace defenders.
“I really enjoyed it. It was a nice game with plenty of chances. It’s most important to get three points. It is different to Holland but I like the way we play. We play quickly and that’s how we create chances,” he added.
