Daniel Levy really is a ruthless negotiator…
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is delaying Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid, so north-London rivals Arsenal can’t sign their targets, Sky Sports claims.
Arsenal are desperate to snap up a marquee player before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening, and have earmarked Real Madrid trio Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema as potential targets.
The La Liga runners up though will only sell one of these star players once a mega-money deal for Gareth Bale is complete, and with Tottenham due to take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday – Levy realises that the future of Arsenal’s transfer targets is essentially in his hands for the time being.
As a result, he is stalling the Bale deal, meaning Arsenal will not have time to complete deals for any of the Madrid trio before Sunday’s crucial match – and potentially not even before the transfer window closes on Monday night.
Tottenham have enjoyed a wonderful transfer window, spending over £100m, securing deals for the likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado, Christian Eriksen, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue. Arsenal on the other hand, have only managed to bring in French teenager Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer.
