It is an open secret in football that red-hot Uruguay international Cavani will be leaving the Sao Paulo stadium at the end of this season, with a whole host of big-name European clubs lining up to secure the striker’s signature.
These suitors reportedly include the likes of Premier League champions Manchester City, as well as Champions League holders Chelsea, with Napoli holding out for a fee said to be in the region of £45 million for Cavani.
And it is understood that the Naples-based club are planning on using those funds in order to lure the highly-rated playmaker Damiao to Italy for next season as Cavani’s like-for-like replacement.
That news will come as a major blow to Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas, who has been keeping close tabs on the Brazil international for some time now and only just missed out on signing the player in the recent January transfer window for £15m, only for the North Londoners’ offer to reach Internacional with not enough time to complete the deal.
