Sri Lanka beat South Africa by five runs in an exciting finish to the group one Super-10 stage match in the World Twenty20 in Chittagong on Saturday.
Sri Lanka, who chose to bat, were lifted to 165-7 by Kusal Perera’s 61 off 40 balls while Angelo Mathews made 43 off 32 deliveries at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium.
South Africa needed 15 off the final over but only managed to get to 160-8 in their 20 overs.
Jean-Paul Duminy top-scored with 39.
Spinner Sachitra Senanayake finished with 2-22.
England play New Zealand in the same group later Saturday. The Netherlands are the third team in the group.
The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals.
