With the rain and often hail pouring down in Sydney, and the game interrupted because of the weather, the Dragons eventually posted another important win.
It was all St George Illawarra early as Peter Mata’utia dived on a Gareth Widdop kick.
As the hail started to hit the field, Mitch Rein dummied his way over.
The match was then halted because of the dangerous conditions. When play resumed it was the Roosters who got the next score.
Shaun Kenny-Dowall had put them back in the game. A Widdop penalty took the score to 12-6 on 60 minutes.
Three minutes later the half knocked over another penalty. With 10 minutes left Roger Tuivasa-Sheck cut the margin back to two points.
It was tight, grinding stuff. But the Roosters couldn’t control the ball and the two point buffer was enough for the Dragons to record their sixth win in a row.
