MLB news: St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright expected to be ready for Opening Day
It has been revealed that he will probably miss the rest of the 2015 season with an Achilles injury, which will hurt the Cardinals rotation greatly.
Wainwright’s injury status has not been officially revealed yet, but he will undergo an MRI on Monday.
“I don’t have any more information than I had for you yesterday. Just like I told you before, we’re going to wait until tomorrow,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said to ESPN.
Fortunately, the Cardinals have a plethora of solid starting pitchers although none of them are at Wainwright’s level.
Lance Lynn, John Lackey and Michael Wacha are all capable starters who will look to fill the large hole that will be left by Wainwright.
Wainwright has been one of the elite starting pitchers in baseball for the past five seasons, and he has finished in the top three in National League Cy Young voting four times in his career.
He has also reached 200 strikeouts three times while winning at least 19 games in a season four times.
