This left running back Zac Stacy on the outs, and he even showed that he knew his fate on Twitter by saying “yikes.”
The Rams surprisingly drafted a running back last year as well, but Tre Mason turned out to be a gem while Stacy struggled after putting together a promising rookie season.
Stacy requested a trade after the Rams drafted Gurley, and his wish was granted as the Rams shipped him to the New York Jets for the Jets’ seventh-round pick.
Stacy finds himself in another crowded backfield as the Jets still have Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell despite losing Chris Johnson, and they also signed former New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley in free agency.
It remains to be seen whether Stacy can find himself a more prominent role in the Jets offense, which was greatly upgraded in the draft with the selections of wide receiver Devin Smith and quarterback Bryce Petty.
