Jack Wilshere has admitted that he plans talks with Arsene Wenger before the start of the season to get assurances over his future at Arsenal.
The England international, who spent five months of last term on the sidelines with another ankle injury, faces stiff competition for a place in the Gunners midfield.
But the 23-year-old, whose goal in yesterday’s 4-0 Asia Cup win over a Singapore XI can be seen below, has returned to pre-season early to try to get a step ahead.
“I haven’t spoken to the boss about my role but I will do before the start of the season,” Wilshere is quoted by The Sun as saying.
“The competition for places next season is going to be unbelievable now that everyone is fit but I’m up for the challenge and I’m sure the other boys are as well.
“I asked the boss if I could come back to pre-season training early because I had a good end to last season and I wanted to keep it going. I felt I missed too much of last season and wanted to give myself the best opportunity to get fit.”
Wilshere, who has made only 48 Premier League starts in four years, has previously been linked with a £40m switch to Manchester City.
