Today’s loss to Everton may have been the nail in the coffin for Chelsea’s title hopes.
After a brutal 3-1 road loss to Everton that has left the club with 4 points after 5 matches, Chelsea don’t look like they’ll be able to catch up to the current leaders Man City.
But Chelsea aren’t just trying to beat the odds, they’re trying to beat history which is stacked against clubs that have struggled the way they have this year.
The Telegraph put together an incredible table which showed the point totals of the eventual Premier League winners through five matches – and the results do not bode well for Chelsea.

While every single Premier League winner had at least seven points through five matches to start a season, only 7 clubs out of the 23 winners had fewer than ten. And while we’re on the subject of Chelsea, the Blues have had at least 13 points in each of their four Premier League titles.
It certainly isn’t physically impossible for Chelsea to make a big rally and see the early leaders fall into a slump, but the stats say that the Blues have way too much ground to cover between now and the end of the season.
