Legendary Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard thanked his many fans for years of support and pledged to return to his favorite club some time in the future.
In an open letter to Liverpool Echo readers, Gerrard stated he plans to continue to support the club even as he prepares to join the MLS’s LA Galaxy this summer and hopes to contribute in one way or another in the future. ”
I’ll be away for the next couple of years but this isn’t the end of my long association with Liverpool Football Club,” Gerrard’s letter said. “I’ve been a supporter all my life and that will continue.
“I hope to get the opportunity to come back and serve the club again one day.
“I feel that I can make a contribution in some role in the future.”
In a storied career in which he made 710 appearances and 187 goals, Gerrard won two FA Cups, was an 8-time PFA Team of the Year member, and was Liverpool’s top goal scorer on three occasions.
Unfortunately the final two games of Liverpool’s season ended in disaster. The club lost their final home match against Crystal Palace 1-3 and then suffered their worst defeat in Premier League history on a 6-1 road loss to Stoke City.
