Is Dele Alli the next Steven Gerrard? The Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid certainly seems to have a lot of the attributes that made the Liverpool legend one of the best players of his generation.
Alli is tall, English, energetic, attack-minded, confident and composed, with a keen eye for goal and the ability to score from long range – as witnessed on his first England start against France.
Being dubbed the next Gerrard is high praise indeed, but, according to the man himself, Alli could be even better.

Gerrard told BT Sport that, judging by the stats above, Alli is a little bit ahead of where he was at this stage of his career, based on his number of appearances at club and international level.
Former England captain Gerrard, who represented his country 114 times at senior level before retiring last year, also said: “We’ll have to wait and see how his career turns out, but he’s certainly got all the potential and the tools to become a top player domestically, but also in Europe.”
Alli is suspended for this weekend’s game against Chelsea after picking up his fifth domestic yellow card of the season in last Sunday’s 4-1 win over West Ham United.
The stats above were correct before Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Qarabag on Thursday, in which Alli completed 90 minutes.
