How the stars of United rated against the Potters.
It was another great night for David Moyes in cup competitions as Manchester United beat Stoke City 0-2 in the League Cup quarter-final.
Goals from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra ensured that the Red Devils progress to the next round and keep their trophy dreams alive.
Here’s how the players rated:
David De Gea – 6
A quiet night for the Spaniard who dealt with the little that Stoke threw at the Premier League champions.
Rafael – 6
Not the Brazilian’s greatest performance at right-back and could have done more down the flank.
Chris Smalling – 6
A solid game for the England international who is proving to be a much better centre-back than right-back.
Jonny Evans – 7
Finally most are coming to recognise the Northern Irishman as a truly top-class defender who is the natural successor to Rio Ferdinand.
Patrice Evra – 8
The captain for the night was good in both defence and attack and took the Frenchman’s goal well.
Antonio Valencia – 6
It was another hard-working showing from the South American, but needs to provide more in the final third.
Tom Cleverley – 8
It’s been a great week for the England international who was inspirational in the 0-3 win over Aston Villa at the weekend and produced a similar display here.
Phil Jones – 6
Had little to deal with, although perhaps looked a little jaded after being relied upon a lot this season already.
Anderson – 5
Disappeared into the background during the game and won’t have done anything to convince Moyes the Brazilian is ready for more first team action.
Ashley Young – 7
Not an outstanding display from the winger, but after the torrent of criticism in recent weeks this was a much better game for the 28-year-old – along with a great goal.
Danny Welbeck – 7
Was a little isolated up-front on the striker’s own, but Welbeck is beginning to look like the real deal for United when given adequate support.
